MORIARTY SOARING
Your internet gateway to central New Mexico soaring and tourism

Moriarty is a special place for glider pilots. It has fabulous and remarkably consistent soaring weather and wide-open air space. Moriarty is located on a high plateau at around 6,000 ft MSL, which is bounded to the west by the Sandia and Manzano mountains, to the north by the Sangre de Cristos (the stepping stones to the Rockies of Colorado), to the east by the open expanses of Eastern New Mexico and to the south by the Carrizozo lava flow, the Sacramento Mountains, Capitan Mountain, and White Sands National Monument.

Albuquerque Soaring, based at Moriarty, has come first in the OLC club rankings for the last two years (and third in the world club ranking in 2005). The average of all flights logged to OLC is better than gold distance. This is a place where the visiting pilot can find plenty of companionship on the ramp and in the air during any given soaring day.

Moriarty provides a seven day operation through Sundance, a commercial operator which offers expert soaring instruction, rides and glider rentals. There is a highly active and friendly club, ASC. And on the airfield there are all kinds of specialist facilities for gliders and their pilots, including maintenance, repair and equipment manufacture.

Moreover, for the rest of a pilot’s family, Moriarty is located at the crossroads, the very heart, of some of the best of tourism in the American Southwest.
